There are over 7 million people who rely on Social Security disability benefits including disabled workers, their children and family members. In 2001, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) warned that the three alternatives put forward by the President's Commission to Strengthen Social Security would reduce the benefits received by people with disabilities.
