"What Impact will Privatization have on Disabled Americans?"

Privatization Threatens the Benefits of Disabled Americans. All privatization options lead to cuts for people with disabilities. There are over 7 million people who rely on Social Security disability benefits including disabled workers, their children and family members. In 2001, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) warned that the three alternatives put forward by the President's Commission to Strengthen Social Security would reduce the benefits received by people with disabilities. The reduction in disability benefits included ranged from 19 percent to 47.5 percent after the year 2030. [GAO, Social Security Administration]
