Washington, DC—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today as Congress sent the President the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008:
“This shows what we can get done when we work in a bipartisan way to address critical challenges. We needed to stop a bad economic situation from getting worse, and that is the purpose of this bill.
“This is not a perfect bill by any means, but it is much improved from the Administration’s initial proposal. It will help instill confidence in and stabilize our economy, and will protect Main Street from the crisis on Wall Street. It also cuts taxes for middle-class families and creates jobs here at home.”
“But this is only the start; in the upcoming Congress Democrats will work to correct the policies that led to this crisis in the first place.”
