Washington, DC—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today after President-elect Obama nominated Arne Duncan to be Secretary of Education:
“As head of the nation’s third-largest school district, Arne Duncan is a strong choice to lead the Department of Education. He has proven to be a pragmatic leader with a record of bringing people together and bringing innovative and much-needed reforms to Chicago’s schools. Under his leadership, student achievement has increased and graduation rates have improved.
“I look forward to confirming Mr. Duncan as quickly as possible and working with him on the challenges facing our nation’s schools – particularly on reforming the No Child Left Behind Act so it can work for all students.
