Washington, DC—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today on the decision by Justice David Souter to retire from the U.S. Supreme Court:
 
“Justice Souter has been a powerful defender of our constitutional rights over his two decades of service to the nation. I am confident President Obama will name a well-qualified successor, and I look forward to fair and respectful hearings and prompt confirmation of the President’s nominee.”
