Washington, DC—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today in response to news that Senate Republicans are devising plans to attack Democrats’ efforts to reform our broken health care system before such a bill has even been written:
“While Democrats are determined to address the very real challenges facing the American people, key Republicans prepare to fight a bill that doesn’t even exist. The American people in November showed their strong support for putting progress before partisan politics. Instead of heeding this call, it appears some Republicans have chosen to take their just-say-no strategy to a new low.
“We are determined to address the health care crisis facing millions of Americans this Congress, and we would prefer to do so on a bipartisan basis. Our Committee Chairmen are leading the way with their Ranking Members. We are committed to that process and will not let Republicans who choose to stand in the way stop us from ensuring all Americans can access affordable, quality health care.”
