Washington, DC—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid released the following statement today regarding the climate change legislation introduced by Senators Kerry and Boxer:

“I applaud Senators Kerry and Boxer and others for introducing this important legislation.  Their bill will go a long way toward creating clean energy jobs, reducing our dependence on foreign energy sources and finally beginning to reduce global warming pollution.

“It won’t be an easy task to develop a bill that achieves these goals in a cost-effective way that can garner the 60 votes likely needed for passage, but I believe that by we can succeed by working in a bipartisan manner.   I look forward to working with Senators Kerry and Boxer, the other relevant committee chairmen, open-minded Republicans and the White House to move a bill to the floor as soon as possible.”
