Washington, DC—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid released the following statement today in response to the insurance industry report on costs related to health insurance reform:
“It is astounding that an industry which has made so many billions off the backs of hardworking American families would lecture anyone on health care costs. These insurers, and those who defend them, see the handwriting on the wall – Americans are serious about reforming health care and Congress, for the first time in 60 years, is primed to act.
“These insurers and their defenders know that when Congress delivers reform this year, there will be a new set of rules that will level the playing field for consumers. No longer will the American people have to hear terms like ‘pre-existing conditions,’ and no longer will insurers be able to deny people the care they need and deserve. The American people won’t be bullied into inaction by rhetoric and scare tactics that simply fall flat.
“I remain energized because we stand closer to real reform for our health insurance system that lowers costs, improve quality of care and preserve choice.”
