Washington, D.C.—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid released the following statement this afternoon after the President’s speech today to outline major initiatives to spur job creation:
“The President’s speech today is another important step in our continuous effort to boost job growth. As President Obama has said on several occasions, there isn’t a silver bullet that will solve our troubles and bring unemployment down. But today’s speech helped outline some of the broad steps that we should take to accelerate job creation.
“I was encouraged by the President’s specific plans for targeted investment. Those plans include a series of proposals to help small businesses grow and hire new staff, additional investment in infrastructure to continue modernizing our transportation systems across the country and a new proposal to provide rebates for homeowners who retrofit their homes for increased energy efficiency.
“People across my home state of Nevada and across the country are struggling with high unemployment and difficult economic conditions. That is why Senate Democrats stand in solidarity with the President as we reaffirm our commitment to keep job creation at the top of our list of legislative priorities.
“I look forward to working with the President, his administration and the House to put these promising initiatives into action.”
