Washington, D.C.—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid released the following statement this afternoon after his White House meeting with President Obama to discuss job creation initiatives to spur America’s economy:
“I had a productive meeting with President Obama this morning. The initiatives that he outlined in his speech yesterday and that we discussed this morning will help small businesses grow and hire new staff, invest in transportation and infrastructure, and give incentives to homeowners to make their homes more energy efficient. He has proposed positive, attainable steps to make sure more Americans have a good job to go to every morning.
“Nevada’s high level of unemployment hurts so many hardworking families. I’m optimistic that the President’s initiatives can help turn this economy around and provide relief to families in Nevada and all over the country.
“It’s also important to underscore how important health reform is to our economic recovery. When Americans can stop spending so much of their paycheck on premiums, they’ll have more left over to put back into the economy. Our bill relieves the burdens on small businesses to help them grow and hire new employees and create good-paying, stable jobs in the health industry.
“I look forward to working with the President, his administration and the House to put these promising initiatives into action.”
