Washington, DC—Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement this evening after the Senate voted to pass a short-term extension of unemployment assistance:
“The last few days have been a time of great uncertainty for thousands of Nevadans and millions of Americans who depend on unemployment insurance and COBRA benefits to make ends meet. Today’s short-term extension of these programs gives those affected Americans peace of mind and allows the Senate more time to work together on a long-term extension of these critical programs. In addition, we can now get back to addressing other important priorities on our bipartisan jobs agenda designed to put America back to work.
“I appreciate all of those who stood up and fought for middle-class American families in their hour of need and reaffirmed our commitment to help America’s unemployed workers support their families through these difficult times.”
