Washington, D.C. — Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today after the President and his national security leadership team announced the completion of their scheduled review of U.S. efforts in Afghanistan:
“Our servicemen and women have done everything that we have asked them to do. Every day, they risk their lives to keep our nation safe, and defeat al Qaeda and other terrorists operating in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region. We owe it to them to ensure that our military leadership has the right strategy and best possible resources in place for our troops to be successful.
“I commend President Obama and his team for their commitment to regularly review our strategy in Afghanistan to make certain we are on a sound footing. Through briefings and hearings, Congress will thoroughly examine the details of the President’s review as the New Year gets underway. As we do so, I particularly want to make sure the President explores every possible way to engage Pakistan to ensure they’re doing everything in their power to address the terrorism challenges on their side of the border.
“We know that the dangers and challenges in this region of the world are real, and it is critical that we get this right. I will continue to work with the President, his Administration and other leaders in Congress to provide our military leadership and our troops with everything they need to achieve our goals.”
