Washington, DC— Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced today that Maria Meier has joined his staff as Senior Advisor for Human Resources to run the Senate's diversity hiring initiative. Meier has been actively involved with efforts to recruit diverse candidates for a range of positions on the Hill and in the Administration, a task she will continue to engage in officially and full time here in the Senate.
Meier was most recently with the Dewey Square Group, and also served on the Senate Democratic Steering Committee under former Democratic Leader Tom Daschle. In that role she created the first conference of Hispanic leaders, where Senators brought constituents to Capitol Hill to discuss policy issues important to the Latino community. Before that, Meier worked as Executive Director at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus in the House.
Meier replaces Martina Bradford, who is now Deputy Senate Sergeant at Arms.
“I am pleased to have someone with Maria's vast experience and dedication in this role, which will ensure that all Senate Democratic offices work to ensure diversity among staff at all levels,” Sen. Reid said. “Increasing diversity on Capitol Hill is an important part of effectively representing an increasingly diverse constituency, and something that has been important to me for years.”
