Democrats Keep Senate in Session All Night Demand Up-or-Down Vote on Iraq

July 17, 2007 - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrats from both the Senate and the House joined concerned citizens tonight at the Upper Senate Park in calling on Republicans to stop blocking a change of course in Iraq.

Democrats are keeping the chamber in session all night Tuesday to force Republicans to allow an up-or-down vote on the Levin-Reed Amendment to the Defense Authorization bill, which would transition the mission toward counterterrorism and training, reduce the U.S. combat presence, and launch a comprehensive diplomatic effort in the region.

Today in the Senate
July 6, 2009:

The Senate will convene at 2:00 p.m. and proceed to a period of morning business for one hour, with Senators permitted to speak for up to 10 minutes each.  Following morning business, the Senate will resume consideration of H.R. 2918, the Legislative Branch Appropriations bill.

At 5:30 p.m., the Senate will proceed to conduct two roll call votes in relation to H.R. 2918: the McCain Amendment No. 1366; and passage of the H.R. 2918, as amended, if amended.
