Statement From Senate Leaders On Judge Kent Resignation Letter

Washington, DCSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement today following the submission of a letter of resignation from Judge Samuel Kent of Texas:
 
“After being served with a summons to file an answer to the articles of impeachment, Judge Kent signed a letter of resignation effective June 30th, 2009.  The Senate today directed the Secretary of the Senate to deliver the original letter of resignation to the President and a certified copy to the House of Representatives. Additionally, the letter has been referred to the Senate impeachment trial committee. The Senate will determine appropriate action after the House has expressed its views about this development.”
