Cloture filed on NRC nominations/votes 5:30pm Monday and 2:15pm Tuesday

This afternoon Senator Reid filed cloture on the Barran and Burns nominations for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The Senate then reached an agreement to conduct the cloture votes on those nominations on Monday, September 15, and, if cloture is invoked, the Senate would vote on confirmation of the nominations at 2:15pm on Tuesday, September 16. Furthermore, the cloture vote on S.2199, Paycheck Fairness Act, will occur at 5:30pm on Monday, September 15.

5:30pm Monday, September 15-3 roll call votes:

  1. Motion to invoke cloture on S.2199, Paycheck Fairness Act;
  2. Motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar  #1004, Jeffery Martin Baran, of Virginia, to be a Member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the remainder of the term expiring June 30, 2015, vice William D. Magwood, IV, resigning.
  3. Motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar  #1003, Stephen G. Burns, of Maryland, to be a Member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the term of five years expiring June 30, 2019, vice George Apostolakis, term expired.

2:15pm Tuesday, September 16--2 roll call votes:

  1. Confirmation of Executive Calendar  #1004, Jeffery Martin Baran, of Virginia, to be a Member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the remainder of the term expiring June 30, 2015, vice William D. Magwood, IV, resigning.
  2. Confirmation of Executive Calendar  #1003, Stephen G. Burns, of Maryland, to be a Member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the term of five years expiring June 30, 2019, vice George Apostolakis, term expired.

Barran and Burns Agreement:

OI ask unanimous consent that on Monday, September 15, 2014, notwithstanding Rule 22, following the vote on cloture on S. 2199, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session and vote on cloture on Executive Calendar numbers #1003 (Baran), and #1004 (Burns);  further, that if cloture is invoked on either of these nominations, that on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at 2:15 pm, all post cloture time be expired, and the Senate proceed to vote on confirmation of the nominations in the order upon which cloture was invoked; further that there be two minutes for debate prior to each vote and all roll call votes after the first vote in each sequence be 10 minutes in length; further, with respect to the nominations in this agreement, that if any nomination is confirmed, the motions to reconsider be considered made and laid upon the table and the President be immediately notified of the Senate's action.
