Schedule for Tuesday, September 27, 2016

The Senate stands adjourned until 10:00am on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.

Following any Leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of H.R.5325, the legislative vehicle for the short-term CR.

The 2nd degree amendment filing deadline is set for 12:00pm. The Senate will recess from 12:30pm until 2:15pm to allow for the weekly caucus meetings.

As a reminder, during Thursday's session Senator McConnell offered substitute amendment #5082 (text of short-term CR), filled the amendment tree, and filed cloture on the substitute and the underlying bill. The cloture vote on the substitute amendment will be at 2:15pm. Under the rules, if cloture is invoked there would then be up to 30 hours of debate followed by a vote on the amendment; if cloture is not invoked, the cloture motion on the underlying bill would immediately ripen.

As another reminder, during today's session the Senate reached an agreement on the veto message on S.2040, JASTA. By consent, at a time to be determined by the Majority Leader in consultation with the Democratic Leader on Wednesday, September 28th, the Senate will proceed to the veto message on S.2040 and there will be 2 hours of debate, divided between the leaders or their designees. Upon the use or yielding back of time, the Senate will vote on passage of the bill, the objections of the President to the contrary notwithstanding (veto override).
