Reid, Pelosi Urge Bush To Sign Labor-HHS Appropriations Bill

Washington, D.C.—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today urging President Bush to sign the Labor-Health and Human Services appropriations bill that was sent to the White House today:

“Our budget is a statement of our national values, and we are proud to have passed bipartisan, fiscally responsible spending bills that reflect the priorities of the American people.
“The Labor-HHS appropriations bill addresses the essential priorities and aspirations of the American people: their economic security, the health and well-being of their families, and the education of their children.  It invests in urgent scientific research of the causes, treatment, and prevention of cancer – a disease that kills 550,000 Americans each year.
“And as we celebrate the sacrifice of those men and women who have honorably served our country this Veterans Day, our bill also provides money for veterans’ employment programs, homeless veterans, and for research to help those suffering from Traumatic Brain Injuries.
“This bill has received strong bipartisan votes in the Congress because it reflects the people’s priorities.  House and Senate leaders have worked on a bipartisan basis to craft legislation that is fiscally responsible while responding to the needs of American families.  We urge President Bush to sign this bill into law.”
