Reid: Bush-McCain Republicans Refuse To Make Changes Necessary To Make America Safer

Washington, DC—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today in response to President Bush’s remarks at his press conference today:

“Today, the man I believe will be the next commander in chief, Senator Barack Obama, described how he will lead this country in the right new direction to make America safer.  Meanwhile, President Bush made clear yet again why the American people are so desperate for change.

“The Bush-McCain approach is making America less secure – military readiness is down, Afghanistan is slipping further into violence, Pakistan remains in crisis, and Osama bin Laden and Ayman al Zawahiri are still on the loose nearly seven years after 9/11.  The Iraq war is not only costly, but President Bush and John McCain have provided no plan for responsibly ending the war and returning to the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban.”

“We need a new strategy for a changing world, but President Bush and John McCain stubbornly refuse to make the strategic changes necessary to make America more secure.”
