Reid: Meeting With International Leaders A ‘Positive, Constructive Step’

Washington, DC—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today after the White House announced that it would hold the first in a series of summits with world leaders to discuss the global economic crisis next month. Senator Reid and Speaker Pelosi earlier this month sent a letter to President Bush calling on him to meet with international leaders to address this crisis:

“I am pleased that the President will bring together international leaders to discuss next steps to ease the global financial crisis. This is a positive, constructive step.  I am hopeful that the meeting will not only address the immediate crisis facing the global economy, but will begin to make the international financial system stronger and more secure.”
