Washington, DC—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today:
“Tax Day reminds us that every dollar we spend belongs to the American people. It is a reminder that we must make our economy work again for the middle class and hold our government accountable for using taxpayer money as responsibly, efficiently and transparently as possible.
“Because of our economic recovery plan, Tax Day is going to be easier for nearly every working American. And because of the budget we passed earlier this month, the biggest tax cuts will go to the middle class, not multimillionaires. We are also expanding the child tax credit and the earned income tax credit for larger families, increasing the tuition tax credit to make it easier for families to send their children to college, and making permanent the sales tax deduction for residents in states like Nevada.
“We must pay the police officers and firefighters who keep us safe, the teachers who educate our children, and the brave men and women who make American more secure at home and abroad. But we must do so in a way that lets hardworking families to keep more of their paychecks at a time when they need it the most.”
