Reid: Tobacco Law Will Save Kids’ Lives

Washington, DCSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today after President Obama signed into law the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act:

“I commend the President for signing into law a bill that will save lives and strengthen our nation’s future.
“We are keeping America’s children and families healthier and keeping tobacco companies honest about the dangers of using their poisonous products.  We are making it harder for those companies to target our children, and making it easier for those who smoke to overcome their addictions while we also make tobacco products less toxic for those who cannot or do not want to stop.
“With 3,500 kids trying smoking for the first time every day, 3.5 million of our nation’s high school students smoking, and nearly half a million Americans dying every year as a result of their smoking or someone else’s, this bill could not become law at a more important time.”
