Reid Statement On The Death Of Dorothy Height

Washington, DCNevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement this morning in reaction to the death of former National Council of Negro Women President Dorothy Height, who passed away earlier today at age 98:   “America lost a civil rights icon today.  Dorothy Height helped put the issue of equality for women and African-Americans on our national radar and, in the process, helped transform our great country.   “For 40 years, Dorothy Height was the driving force behind the National Council of Negro Women.  In that post, she helped to lead a national dialogue about gender and racial equality.  She was a trusted counsel for every White House since the Franklin Roosevelt administration and remained active in her important work up through her final days.    “We celebrate the life of Dorothy Height as her legacy lives on through her work to help create a fairer, more equal America.  My thoughts are with her loved ones as they mourn her loss.”
