Durbin, Whitehouse, McCaskill, Warner Call On Republicans To Confirm President’s Nominees

Washington, DC— Assistant Senate Majority Leader Dick Durbin joined Senators Sheldon Whitehouse, Claire McCaskill and Mark Warner at a media availability earlier today to call on Republicans to end their obstruction and delay of President Obama’s nominations. Today, nearly 100 nominations are pending before the United States Senate, five times the number of nominations that were pending at this time during the Bush Administration. These nominees will fill positions that are vital to protecting our national security and aiding our economy.  Most were reported out of Committee with overwhelming support.
Attached to this release are documents outlining the many nominations whose confirmations are being delayed by Republicans. These documents highlight the need for Republicans to end their record of obstruction. Democrats are committed to ensuring that the President has a full team to address the many issues confronting our nation and will continue to call on Republicans to stop playing politics with these nominees.
