Reid Statement On The Death Of Lena Horne

Washington, DCNevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today in reaction to the death of famed singer, actress and civil rights activist Lena Horne at age 92:
“Armed with sharp wit, courage and a stunning voice, Lena Horne broke racial barriers and became part of the soundtrack of the 20th century in America.  Ms. Horne’s passing silences one of the golden voices in our country’s history but her impact on our society lives on.  She used her gifts to integrate concert halls, to work with First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to push for anti-lynching laws and to help narrate one of the most significant events in the 20th century, the March on Washington.  And Nevadans appreciate the stand that Ms. Horne took with many others to help integrate the Las Vegas Strip.  I join millions of Americans in mourning her loss and pass my condolences on to her family.”
