Washington, DC— Jim Manley, spokesman for Nevada Senator Harry Reid, released the following statement today in response to Republicans filibustering amendments that would strengthen Wall Street accountability legislation:
"Senator Reid is fighting hard for Wall Street reform that protects consumers in Nevada and across the country from the types of abuses that created the economic mess we’re experiencing today. But to the bitter end, Republicans are trying to please their friends on Wall Street by watering down our efforts to hold big banks accountable. That’s why they are blocking amendments that would prevent big banks from gambling in the housing market and would restrict the same kind of high-risk trading that helped lead to the latest financial crisis.
“This is another transparent attempt to protect Wall Street and leave middle-class families in Nevada and across America on the hook for their greed and excess.”
