Reid Statement On Judiciary Committee Vote Regarding The Nomination Of Elena Kagan For The U.S. Supreme Court

Washington, DCNevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today after the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 13-6 to report the nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan for the U.S. Supreme Court to the full Senate:
“Elena Kagan has proven that she will be a Supreme Court Justice who will not favor big corporations that seek to take advantage of Americans in Nevada and across the nation.  The bipartisan support that Solicitor General Kagan received from the Judiciary Committee today recognizes her allegiance to the rule of law, fairness and equal justice for all, and that she is well-qualified to replace Justice Stevens.  She has clearly demonstrated that she will not be a rubber stamp for corporate interests.
“The entire Senate will soon have the opportunity to vote on Ms. Kagan’s confirmation and in doing so show the American people whose side they are on.  Solicitor General Kagan will be a Justice who understands the real world impact of law and stands up for everyday Americans.
“I commend Chairman Leahy, Ranking Member Sessions and all members of the Judiciary Committee for conducting fair, respectful confirmation hearings, and I look forward to supporting Ms. Kagan’s nomination on the Senate floor before the August recess.”
