Reid Spokesman: Even As Children Get Sick, Senator Coburn Puts Politics Ahead Of Ensuring Our Food Is Safe

Washington, DC — Jim Manley, spokesman for Nevada Senator Harry Reid, released the following statement this afternoon calling on Senator Coburn to end his obstruction of food safety legislation:
“In Senator Coburn’s world, children who get sick and even die from eating unsafe food are less important than petty political posturing – and instead of standing up for these kids, Senate Republicans have rewarded Senator Coburn by electing him part of their leadership.
“Senator Coburn’s excuses for obstructing may shift with the winds, but the result remains the same: he is the only thing standing in the way of common-sense measures to make sure the food we feed our children is safe.  Senator Coburn should stop putting politics ahead of the safety of middle-class families in Oklahoma, Nevada, and across the country, and join with both Democrats and Republicans to make sure our food is safe.”
