Reid Statement Celebrating Labor Day

Washington, D.C.Nevada Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) released the following statement celebrating Labor Day:

“As the country honors millions of working families on Labor Day, we need to remember that there are still too many men and women in Nevada and across the country who are struggling to find a job. Our economy is improving, but until everyone who wants a job can find one, we cannot be satisfied.

“Americans are looking to their elected leaders for action that will help the middle class. Republicans should join Democrats and pass common-sense, job-creating legislation, instead of looking to fight battles of the past. Sadly, House Republicans have wasted time and taxpayer money voting 40 times to repeal the Affordable Care Act, nearly four years after Congress passed it and a year after the Supreme Court affirmed it. Now many are threatening to shut down the government, or keep the United States from paying its bills if they are not allowed to take away funds to implement the law. Republicans must focus on job creating legislation instead.

“There are many ways we can create jobs, such as replacing the sequester with vital investments in job creation and the middle class that are paid for by closing tax loop holes that only help millionaires and corporations already benefiting from our one-sided economic recovery. We need to remember today that the middle class wants to get back to work and they want Republicans and Democrats cooperating to accelerate our economic recovery, not manufacturing an unnecessary crisis.”
