Reid Statement On Republicans’ Rejection Of Nina Pillard’s Nomination To The D.C. Circuit Court Of Appeals

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement after Republicans blocked Nina Pillard, the third nominee to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to be blocked by Republicans this year. Pillard’s nomination received a vote of 56 to 41, four votes short of the 60 required to break a filibuster:

“I am extremely disappointed that Republicans have once again blocked a highly qualified nominee to a court currently operating with three vacancies. Professor Pillard is a respected legal scholar at Georgetown University and has argued nine cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Republicans filled these vacancies under President Bush, and they should work with Democrats to fill them now.”
