Cloture filed on Pompeo and Grenell nominations

The Senate confirmed the Duncan nomination by a vote of 50-47.

Senator McConnell then filed cloture on the Pompeo (Secretary of State) and Grenell (Ambassador to Germany) nominations. Unless an agreement can be reached, the cloture vote on the Pompeo nomination would occur one hour after the Senate convenes on Thursday. If cloture is invoked, there would be up to 30 hours of post-cloture debate prior to a vote on confirmation. Then there would be a cloture vote on the Grenell nomination. If cloture is invoked, there would be up to 30 hours of post-cloture debate prior to a vote on confirmation.

Cloture filed on:
1.       Executive Calendar #788, Mike Pompeo, of Kansas, to be Secretary of State

2.       Executive Calendar #619, Richard Grenell, of California, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Federal Republic of Germany
