The Senate stands
adjourned until 3:00pm on Monday, July 16, 2018.
Following Leader remarks, the
Senate will resume consideration of the nomination of
Executive Calendar #936, Scott Stump, of Colorado, to be Assistant
Secretary for Career, Technical, and Adult Education, Department of Education.
At 5:30pm, the Senate will
vote on confirmation of the Stump nomination.
During Thursday’s session,
Senator McConnell filed cloture on the following nominations:
1.
Executive
Calendar #595, Randal Quarles, of Colorado, to be a Member of the Board of
Governors of the Federal Reserve;
2.
Executive
Calendar #892, Andrew S. Oldham, of Texas, to be United States Circuit Judge
for the Fifth Circuit; and
3.
Executive
Calendar #903, Ryan Wesley Bounds, of Oregon, to be United States Circuit Judge
for the Ninth Circuit.
Those nominations will be
considered next week. By the rules, the first, in relation to the Quarles
nomination, will take place an hour after the Senate convenes on Tuesday. If
cloture is invoked on a nomination, the Senate will begin to burn up to 30
hours of post-cloture time prior to a confirmation vote and then the ripening
of the next cloture petition. If cloture is not invoked on a nomination, the
Senate will immediately vote on the next cloture petition.
Also, as a reminder, the
Senate still has an order to consider the Blew nomination (Dept. of Ed) with 5
hours of debate prior to a vote on confirmation. That could be considered early
next week. The Senate is also expected to receive another minibus
appropriations bill (perhaps Interior/FSGG/THUD/Ag) from the House.
