The Senate stands adjourned to
convene for a pro forma session at 11:50am. The Senate will then adjourn until
12:00 Noon on Thursday, January 3, 2019.
At 12:00 Noon, the First Session of the 116th
Congress will convene. Following the prayer and pledge, the certificates of
election will be presented. Senators will then be sworn-in in groups of four.
After the swearing-in, there will be a live quorum. After a quorum is
established, the Senate will adopt a number of
housekeeping resolutions. Upon completion of the opening day business,
we expect Senators McConnell and Schumer to deliver leader remarks.
Following leader remarks, the
Senate will be in a period of morning business with senators permitted to speak
therein for up to 10 minutes each.
