Roll Call Votes

1)      Motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar #8, Jeffrey Kessler, of Virginia, to be an Assistant Secretary of Commerce; invoked: 95-3.

2)      Shall the decision of the Chair stand as judgement of the Senate; the ruling of the Chair does not stand: 48-51.

The precedent is now set that sub-cabinet nominations under Section 5312 of Title 5 of the US Code are subject to 2 hours of post-cloture debate (down from 30).

3)      Motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar #32, Roy Kalman Altman, of Florida, to be United States District Judge for the Southern District of Florida; invoked: 66-33.

4)      Shall the decision of the Chair stand as judgement of the Senate; the ruling of the chair does not stand: the ruling of the Chair does not stand: 48-51.

The precedent is now set that judicial nominations other than circuit courts or the Supreme Court are subject to 2 hours of post-cloture debate (down from 30).
