A BETTER DEAL: Build an economy that gives working Americans the tools to succeed in the 21st Century
Build an economy that gives working Americans the tools to succeed in the 21st Century: Americans deserve the chance to get the skills, tools, and knowledge to find a good-paying job or to move up in their career to earn a better living. We will commit to A Better Deal that provides new tax incentives to employers that invest in workforce training and education and make sure the rules of the economy support companies that focus on long-term growth, rather than short-term profits. We will make it a national priority to bring high-speed Internet to every corner of America and offer an apprenticeship to millions of new workers. We will encourage innovation, invest in advanced research and ensure start-ups and small business can compete and prosper.
Jobs for the 21st Century
Today, far too many American workers have been left behind and left out. Although the economy is recovering and corporate profits are climbing, many job openings remain unfilled, and businesses are still not investing in their workers to make sure they have the skills to grow the economy and get ahead. Millions of Americans, especially those without a college degree, are searching for a path to a good job that will help provide for their families. That’s why we pledge to fight for 10 million good-paying, full-time jobs with a promising future for America’s workers.
We propose a new tax credit for employers that train and hire workers and employ them at a good wage. We propose expanding apprenticeships to sectors of the economy without already well established apprenticeship programs and making registered apprenticeship programs a national priority. We propose investing in networking opportunities so employers have a role in curriculum development and can offer on-site experience and other educational opportunities that ensure that those Americans graduating from community colleges, technical schools, and other training programs are already prepared with the tools and skills they need to succeed and get a job. In the days and weeks to come, we will propose more bold ideas to achieve our goal of lowering everyday costs, filling and creating millions of new, full-time, good-paying jobs with a diverse, trained workforce that has the tools they need to succeed in the 21st century.
