Schumer Statement On Report That President Trump Told Russian Officials He Was Not Concerned About Moscow’s Interference In The 2016 Election

Washington, D.C. – Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer today released the following statement on the report that President Trump told two senior Russian officials in an Oval Office meeting that he was not concerned about Moscow’s interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election:

"If true, the reports that President Trump may have told close associates of Putin that he didn’t mind Russian interference in the US elections are extremely harmful to both our national security and the integrity of our elections. It’s one of the most disturbing things we’ve learned yet.

 “The White House should immediately provide the Congressional intelligence committees with all the records of that meeting so we can get to the bottom of it. 

“Since President Trump does not seem to care about the integrity of our elections, it’s incumbent upon the Congress to take action. Leader McConnell: Stop blocking desperately-needed election security legislation in the Senate.”
