The Democratic Strategic Communications Committee traces its history to the establishment of the Democratic Policy Committee in January 1947 and, more recently, the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC). Over the years, it has served various functions, including as an advisory board to the Democratic leadership and as a research, policy formulating, and communications arm of Senate Democrats.
Under the leadership of Chair Senator Cory Booker, along with Vice Chair Senator Tina Smith,
the Strategic Communications Committee has evolved into a hub to support Senate Democrats’ messaging and communications efforts. Providing various services to Democratic Senators and their staff, the SCC enhances Senate Democrats’ ability to formulate and advance their agenda through the use of modern communications platforms and techniques.
