After Rep. Mulvaney Says He Will Push President To Cut Earned Benefits, Schumer Calls On President Trump To Withdraw His Nominee For Budget Director

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer released the following statement after President Donald Trump’s choice for OMB Director, Mick Mulvaney, reaffirmed his commitment to raising the Social Security retirement age and cutting other valuable programs:

“Representative Mick Mulvaney’s statements in which he reaffirmed his commitment to pushing President Trump to raise the Social Security retirement age, and his previous comments about cutting Medicare and other invaluable programs, are just further proof President Trump is using populist rhetoric to cover up a hard right agenda. These types of radical proposals totally contradict what President Trump campaigned on and many of his supporters voted for. Seniors who are Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike should be very worried. President Trump should withdraw his nomination immediately and send a clear message to the American people that he cares about our seniors and the modest benefits they receive that allow them to live with health coverage, economic security, and dignity in their aging years.”
