Ahead of Vote on Rex Tillerson, Schumer Demands Tillerson Tell Senate His Views on Anti-Refugee, Anti-Immigrant Executive Orders

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today released the following statement:

“Tomorrow evening, the full Senate will take the first vote on Rex Tillerson’s nomination to serve as Secretary of State. I have already decided to oppose his nomination, but Mr. Tillerson should tell the full Senate where he stands on these anti-immigrant, anti-refugee executive orders.

“Was Mr. Tillerson consulted by the administration on these executive orders? Does he support them? Does he agree they are lawful and constitutional? Will he direct the State Department to enforce them if he is confirmed?

“These executive orders are un-American, mean-spirited, and will do nothing to keep us safe. Before being asked to vote yes or no on his nomination, Senators deserve to know where he stands.”
