On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump did not disappoint white nationalists. His first State of the Union with the false premise of bipartisanship and of extending an olive branch to the Democrats was marked by divisive positions of "them" versus "us". This was most apparent when he got on the topic of immigration and spoke of immigrants in the context of the Mara Salvatrucha gang, thus equating immigrants with criminals. Of course, only a delusional person would think that things were going to be different.

He mentioned the guests he brought to the House of Representatives, a group that represented a mixture of courage and victimization, whom he used to paint a picture in his call for patriotism and perseverance.

If anyone still doubted what “Divider in Chief,” Donald Trump, thinks about immigration, they could hear it on Tuesday night during his prime time speech about the State of the Union. For Trump, legal immigrants and undocumented immigrants are all "criminals.” The portion of the speech devoted to the topic of immigration did not focus on explaining why Dreamers deserve to be recognized as the Americans they are. No. Trump even threw a jab at them saying that "Americans are also dreamers", in clear reference to the Dreamers. But he forgot that those Dreamers are Americans too.

Donald Trump’s presidency has been one of rancor, deceit, and pettiness, that has created confusion between truth and lies. It puts our democracy at risk when he tries to run the government the way he runs his businesses.. Last year on the same stage, the President spoke of unity and then governed in the most divisive way we can all remember. There is no reason to believe today that he will do otherwise. You can repeat the words written on a piece of paper, but the facts are the ones that speak the truth.
