Mapping The Middle Class Tax Cut
Renew and Increase the Middle Class Tax Cut for 160 Million Americans
Senate Democrats are fighting to renew the payroll tax cut which was enacted at the end of 2010. It lowered the rate at which employees’ earnings are taxed to fund Social Security from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent. At the end of 2011, Congress passed a two-month stop-gap reauthorization of the two-percentage-point payroll tax cut to provide further support for the economic recovery and struggling families.
This map shows additional take-home pay that each worker would receive if Congress were to reauthorize the payroll tax cut for the remaining 10 months of the year.
