Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today spoke on the Senate floor congratulating Senator John Thune (R-SD) on being elected as the new Republican Leader of the Senate, and stressed the importance of bipartisan cooperation moving forward. Below are Senator Schumer’s remarks, which can also be viewed here:
I have just been told that Senator John Thune will be the next Republican Leader in the Senate.
I congratulate Senator Thune on being chosen by his colleagues as the next Republican Leader. I look forward to working with him. We’ve done many bipartisan things here in the Senate together and I hope that continues. As you know, I strongly believe that bipartisanship is the best and often the only way to get things done in the Senate.
