Majority Leader Schumer Floor Remarks On The Senate Vote To Advance The Social Security Fairness Act Later Today

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today spoke on the Senate floor regarding the  vote later today on cloture on the motion to proceed the Social Security Fairness Act . Below are Senator Schumer’s remarks, which can also be viewed here:

I want to remind everyone that the Senate will take a very important vote this afternoon to ensure no American who has chipped into Social Security is wrongly denied their well-earned benefits.

This afternoon, we will vote whether or not to take up the Social Security Fairness Act, a bill repealing two flawed policies that eat away at the benefits of many Americans who at some point or another worked as teachers, fire fighters, postal workers, or other public sector workers.

When we vote today, retirees deprived of their benefits will be watching closely. Every Senator will decide who will vote to secure their benefits, and who will stand in the way to waste this golden opportunity to make a law.
