The Inflation Reduction Act is already paying huge dividends for the American people – in 2023, dozens of companies have announced they will invest in the United States, creating jobs, supporting our economy, and bringing back American manufacturing.

According to the White House, private companies have announced more than $600 billion in investments under this administration – including $152 billion in EVs and batteries and $74 billion in clean energy manufacturing. Thanks to landmark legislation passed by Senate Democrats, 2023 has been a year of historic investment across the country.

Associated Press: Business Group Estimates Several Hundred Thousand Clean Energy Jobs In EV, Battery Storage And Solar.  “A nonpartisan business group that advocates for clean energy estimates that 403,000 jobs will be created by the 210 major energy projects announced since the Inflation Reduction Act took effect in mid-2022. At least $86 billion in investments have been announced, with the biggest job gains in expected in the electric vehicles, battery storage and solar energy sectors, said the report issued Wednesday by Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2). The IRA, signed August 2022, contains $500 billion in new federal spending to lower healthcare costs, increase tax revenues and address climate change by offering incentives so clean tech companies innovate and manufacture in the U.S.” [Associated Press, 11/1/23]

Forbes: North Carolina Becomes A Mecca For Green Energy Investments. “Toyota is investing $14 billion in an electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant in North Carolina, creating 5,000 jobs. The Liberty, N.C. facility goes live in 2025 — a byproduct of federal laws passed since 2021. The CHIPS Act, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act have driven multiple high-dollar deals in North Carolina — investments worth at least $1 billion and 1,000 jobs each. At any given time, the state’s economic developers are in talks with a dozen advanced manufacturing facilities seeking to expand.” [Forbes, 11/13/23]

Electrek: The First Solar Panel Factory Built Since The Passage Of The IRA Is Complete. “Solar giant Qcells announced today that it’s completed the expansion of its Dalton, Georgia, factory – what it calls the ‘largest manufacturing plant of its kind in the western hemisphere.’ It’s also the first solar panel factory to be built since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act.” … “Justin Lee, CEO of Qcells, said that the ‘Inflation Reduction Act and the efforts of Georgia’s economic development team helped make these ambitious plans possible, and with it thousands of careers in clean energy.’” [Electrek, 10/18/23]

Associated Press: One Year Old, US Climate Law Is Already Turbocharging Clean Energy Technology. “On August 16, after the hottest June ever recorded and a scorching July, America’s long-sought response to climate change, the Inflation Reduction Act, turns one year old. In less than a year it has prompted investment in a massive buildout of battery and EV manufacturing across the states. Nearly 80 major clean energy manufacturing facilities have been announced, an investment equal to the previous seven years combined, according to the American Clean Power Association.” [Associated Press, 7/23/23]

Axios: The New Climate Law Is Upending The Solar Landscape. “The year since passage of the big climate law has brought over $100 billion in U.S. solar and storage company investments. New data from the Solar Energy Industries Association — a major industry trade group — on private investment suggests the law's subsidies for manufacturing and generation are significantly boosting industry activity levels.” [Axios, 8/14/23]

CNN: Biden’s Climate Law Has Led To 86,000 New Jobs And $132 Billion In Investment, New Report Says. “A year after Democrats passed their sweeping $750 billion climate and health care law, it’s leading to a surge of clean energy projects and job creation, according to a recent Bank of America report. More than 270 new clean energy projects have been announced since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), with private investments totaling $132 billion, according to the report. These investments are expected to be accompanied by more than 86,000 jobs, including 50,000 jobs related to electric vehicles. The Inflation Reduction Act “is not only working to strengthen supply chains but also to boost domestic manufacturing and create new jobs,” Bank of America said in the report.” [CNN, 8/14/23]

NPR: Plugged In: How The IRA Is Changing America. “It's been nearly a year since the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 narrowly passed. President Joe Biden's sweeping climate bill has high hopes for fighting climate change, including a pledge to cut U.S. emissions in half by 2030. Some initiatives are working. Solar and wind energy are cheaper and the IRA is also providing tax credits to promote the use of electric vehicles.” [NPR, 8/14/23]

TIME: How the Inflation Reduction Act Has Reshaped the U.S.—and The World. “Across the country, the IRA has spurred hundreds of billions of dollars in investment in clean technology. Lithium-ion battery makers are opening factories near auto industry hubs to serve the growing electric vehicle market. Solar manufacturers are setting up shop in red states like Georgia. And old-school oil companies are investing in hydrogen. ‘It's a transformation of the economy,’ says John Podesta, President Joe Biden’s senior advisor charged with implementing the IRA. The IRA, which will mark one year since its signing on Aug. 16, is a classic piece of D.C. lawmaking.” [TIME, 8/11/23]

Fast Company: $278 Billion And 170,600 Jobs: How Biden’s Landmark Climate Bill Changed The Economy. “When the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was signed into law on August 16, 2022, the monumental bill came with a slew of notable numbers: $369 billion for climate and energy investments, up to $7,500 in tax credits for the purchase of new electric vehicles, the promise of “millions” of well-paying clean energy jobs. A year later, there are now a handful of numbers to quantify the impact the bill is already having. The full effect of the Inflation Reduction Act isn’t meant to be immediate—its climate incentives extend over a 10-year period, and it has a long-term goal of reducing carbon emissions by 40% by 2030. But just one year in, climate groups are tallying up a significant amount of successes.” [Fast Company, 8/15/23]

GreenBiz: U.S. Job Growth Surges With The IRA. “If you’ve followed coverage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in the past year, you definitely know this number: $369 billion. Touted by one and all as the amount of money invested in climate action and energy security programs by the law, $369 billion has become a mainstay in IRA discourse. But $369 billion is no longer the most accurate number to cite, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Its latest calculations increase the total to $391 billion through 2031. Now that the IRA has been the law of the land for one year, it’s not surprising that numbers are transitioning from projected to actualized. And nowhere is that better illustrated than in job growth.” [GreenBiz, 8/9/23]

CleanTechnica: Solar & Storage Companies Add Over $100 Billion To U.S. Economy As A Result Of The Inflation Reduction Act. “Since the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) passed one year ago, U.S. solar and storage companies have announced over $100 billion in private sector investments, helping bolster the American economy, according to new analysis released today by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). Solar and storage manufacturing is now surging in the United States, as 51 solar manufacturing facilities have been announced or expanded in the last year.” [CleanTechnica, 8/14/23]
