U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer, along with fellow Senate Democrats, will hold the Senate floor late into the night and use Facebook Live to denounce the Republican plan to make America sick again by repealing the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The Senators will also host calls with advocacy groups around the country to fight back against the GOP’s ACA repeal efforts, which would kick 30 million people off of their insurance, defund Planned Parenthood and make significant cuts to critical entitlement programs like Medicare and Medicaid. The Democrats will say the GOP is still pushing to repeal the ACA but has zero replacement plan, which could lead to chaos in the system rather than affordable care.

“We cannot allow Republicans to make America sick again by repealing the ACA without a replacement plan that will ensure millions of Americans are not kicked off of their insurance, seniors do not face cuts to their Medicare, women are not denied access to care because of their gender, and many other groups, including Medicaid recipients, rural hospitals and more, do not suffer. Right now, the GOP’s plan would put the insurance companies back in the driver’s seat and create chaos in the system instead of affordable care,” said Schumer. “Tonight, we are taking to the floor and social media to denounce this plan and warn the American people that the Democrats will be fighting tooth and nail against this potentially catastrophic move.”
Senate Democrats will argue that the GOP’s plan to repeal the ACA would, among many other things, put insurance companies back in charge by eliminating patient protections for every American who has insurance. Moreover, it would leave 30 million Americans without insurance. In addition, a repeal would cut Medicare and Medicaid health benefits and result in huge hikes in costs of insurance and prescription drugs for every family. Finally, it would defund Planned Parenthood, an important organization that provides health security and access to care for many women, particularly of lower income.
Therefore, Schumer and his fellow Senate Democrats will hold the Senate floor late into the night as well as take to social media to denounce this plan. In addition to speaking on the floor about this irresponsible GOP plan, Senate Democrats will host a Facebook Live event and conduct calls with constituencies around the country, like Families USA, Planned Parenthood, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and others.
