Leader Schumer Says Senate Republicans’ Partisan Budget Paves Way For Harmful Cuts To Health Care And Other Essential Programs

Washington, D.C. – Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today released the following statement after Senate Republicans released a highly partisan budget resolution that paves the way for tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy while gutting essential government programs like health care and hurting the American people:

“The Senate Republican budget resolution is a clear betrayal of all working families. Their purely-partisan effort shows Republicans are prepared to gut health care programs like Medicare and Medicaid, raise the cost of higher education and jeopardize countless jobs across the country – all to pave the way for a costly massive tax giveaway to the ultra-wealthy and corporations. Democrats will fight to protect critical investments in working families across the country, but just like in 2017 we will need some courageous Republicans to stand up to President Trump and vote no.”
