Leader Schumer Statement On Republicans’ ‘Menu’ Of Cuts To Middle-Class Americans

Washington, D.C. – Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today released the following statement in response to House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington’s 51-page reconciliation menu of middle-class cuts. The document details a multitude of plans that cut benefits to hard-working Americans to pay for massive tax giveaways for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations:

“As the saying goes, ‘If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu.’ So, it’s no surprise from looking at Donald Trump’s cabinet of millionaires and billionaires that America’s middle class is on the menu. 

“The Republican so-called ‘menu of cuts’ are the clearest sign yet that Republicans are intent on balancing the books for a costly tax plan for the ultra-wealthy and corporations, off the backs of hardworking average Americans. This ‘menu’ is a bait and switch for working families who voted for Donald Trump. It would represent another massive transfer of wealth from the wallets of working people to the portfolios of the very wealthy. 

“Even before Donald Trump takes office, Republicans are already putting us on the wrong track.”
