Majority Leader Schumer And Republican Leader McConnell Awarded The Ukrainian Order Of Merit First Class From President Zelenskyy Following Enactment Of Vital National Security Aid Legislation

Washington, D.C.   Today, at a joint bipartisan meeting, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) were awarded the Ukrainian Order of Merit First Class from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy because of the leaders’ steadfast commitment to Ukraine and following the enactment of the historic National Security Act.

Today, Majority Leader Schumer, Republican Leader McConnell, and a group of bipartisan Senators met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss Russia’s ongoing, unprovoked aggression against Ukraine. At the top of the meeting, President Zelenskyy awarded Leader Schumer and Leader McConnell the Ukrainian Order of Merit First Class in appreciation of their role in securing the historic passage of the National Security Act of 2024, which was signed into law by a strong, bipartisan majority on April 24, 2024.
