Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today spoke on the Senate floor regarding the confirmation vote of Eunice Lee to serve as a United States Circuit Judge for the Second Circuit. Below are Senator Schumer’s remarks:
I'm going to ask to vote on confirmation for Eunice Lee to be the United States Circuit Judge on the Second Circuit. She's an amazing person. I interviewed her and recommended her to the president.
She'll be the only former public defender on the Second Circuit. We've had very, very few public defenders on that circuit and largely on our federal bench. They tend to be prosecutors, partners in big law firms. We're changing all that and getting people who have different walks of life, like public defenders, like people from the ACLU, so we have a new perspective on the bench.
She's a phenomenal person and I'm so proud that she will now get on the bench. So I ask that the Senate now vote on confirmation of the Lee nomination to be United States Circuit Judge.
