Majority Leader Schumer Floor Remarks On Legislation To Revoke Permanent Normal Trade Relations With Russia

Washington, D.C.   Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today spoke on the Senate floor regarding today’s House vote to revoke permanent normal trade relations with Russia. Senator Schumer stated that he expects the legislation to have broad support in the Senate. Below are Senator Schumer’s remarks, which can also be viewed here:

On a final note, the House today is expected to vote on legislation revoking permanent normal trade relations with Russia. For weeks members of the Senate, the House, and the White House have been working together to draft a strong and effective bill that will increase the pain on Putin’s Russia and that our European allies will accept.

To date, both parties, Democrat and Republican, remain united in sending Putin a clear message: his inhumane violence against the Ukrainian people will come at a crippling price, and today’s step by the House is another way we are making that come true. When the House passes this bill, I expect it will have broad bipartisan support here in the Senate and I will work with my colleagues to find a way to move it through this chamber quickly.
