Majority Leader Schumer Floor Remarks On President Biden Signing The Bipartisan Fire Grants And Safety Act Today

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today spoke on the Senate floor on President Biden signing the bipartisan Senate-passed Fire Grants and Safety Act later today, which will help keep firefighters and communities safer. Below are Senator Schumer’s remarks, which can also be viewed here:

The Fire Grants and Safety Act – which we passed here in the Senate, helping our firefighters get the equipment they need, adding to certain fire departments with more firefighters they need, making us all safer, making our firefighters safer, and finally renewing the old Fire Grants and SAFER Act that Senator Dodd and I passed back in 2002 – is a great thing.

And today, the President will sign it. I salute President Biden for supporting this legislation and helping us get it through the Congress. I salute our firefighters, both paid and volunteer, who rush to danger to protect us when there is danger afloat.

So God bless them, and I'm glad the Fire Grants and Safety Act that backs them up will be signed into law in a few hours.
